OSv, the best workload platform among containers and virtualization
DevconTLV Summit Conference, Thursday, June 5, 2014, 15:15
OSv is a new open source cloud operating system. OSv was written from
scratch to me the requirements of cloud workloads, a.k.a scalability and manageability.
Most of the traditional OS layers were reaped off in order to deliver maximum performance along with full automation using RESTful api.
The results provides the best of all worlds:
Lightness and performing as physical containers while preserving hypervisor rich
features such as security, live migration, SLA, etc.
Avi Kivity is known mostly for starting the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) project, the hypervisor underlying many production clouds.
He has worked for Qumranet and Red Hat as KVM maintainer until December 2012. Avi is now CTO, Cofounder at ScyllaDB a Cassandra-compatible NoSQL data store that promises 1 million transactions per second on a single server.
